KUCHING, Feb 5: Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd’s outgoing managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) Yoshio Akimoto paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the latter’s office yesterday.
Akimoto was accompanied by the incoming MD and CEO of Taiyo Yuden Sarawak, Masashi Toyama.
During the visit, Akimoto informed Awang Tengah that he would be leaving Sarawak to assume the post of MD for Taiyo Yuden in Changzhou, China.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development-cum-Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, thanked Akimoto for his close cooperation and support, especially for Taiyo Yuden’s ambitious expansion plan in Sama Jaya during his tenure.
For the record, Taiyo Yuden planned to invest a total of RM4.1 billion on the new 70 acres of land in Sama Jaya that the State government has allocated.
Phase 1 began last year and is expected to complete by 2023.
The company is expected to recruit an additional 2,000 employees in 2023. Currently, the company employs 5,300 workers where 98 per cent are Sarawakians.
Taiyo Yuden has been operating in Sama Jaya since 1996.
Awang Tengah thanked Taiyo Yuden for their strong confidence in the State leadership and assured the company that the State government would provide all the necessary assistance to ensure the new expansion plan would be completed as scheduled.
Also present during the courtesy visit were International Trade, Industry and Investment Assistant Minister Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh; Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment acting permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron and Special Function Officer Datu Liaw Soon Eng. ― DayakDaily
