MIRI, Oct 13: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib were treated to a special performance from Istana Budaya’s Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia at the State Banquet in conjunction with his 83rd birthday celebration.
Yesterday’s event, at a leading hotel in the city, included performances from established singers such as Bob Yusuf, Fairuz Misran, Ermi Sanisha, Carrie Geres, Hael Husaini and other local artistes, taking turns to belt out popular and traditional songs.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, state Cabinet members, assistant ministers, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion and other dignitaries were present.
A video presentation featuring leaders and people from various backgrounds expressing their birthday wishes and greetings to the Head of State was screened at the dinner. This followed by a cake cutting ceremony.
The dinner also saw performances by artistes from the Sarawak Arts Council and National Department of Culture and Arts Sarawak. — DayakDaily
