MIRI, May 7: From January 2024 to April 30, this year, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) has amassed RM63.10 million in zakat collection, reveals its general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.
“These funds are pivotal in supporting the organisation’s mission to aid those in need,” he told the local press today during TBS’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Miri at Miri Islamic Complex.
In tandem with its commitment to community welfare, TBS disbursed RM35.59 million to eligible asnaf through its four primary programmes.
“These include the Strengthening Traditions Programme, Developing Islamic Institutions Programme, Strengthening Community Welfare Programme, and Community Skills Improvement Programme,” Abang Mohd Shibli said.
Highlighting the significance of bolstering zakat contributions to sustain the organisation’s vital programmes, Abang Mohd Shibli referenced TBS’s achievement in 2023, where it successfully reached its target with a zakat collection of RM141.5 million.
“In 2023, TBS assisted 60,000 beneficiaries, allocating a total of RM70.28 million to support various community programmes,” he said.
