KUCHING, March 7: An e-hailing driver’s home was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman @ Tabuan Foochow this afternoon while he was out working, leaving him in shock and heartbreak.
Mohammad Hamizan Alias, 26, was in the middle of his shift when he received a distressing phone call from a friend from the same village, informing him that his house was on fire.
He rushed back, only to find the house reduced to ashes.
“I was devastated when I arrived. The house was completely gone.
“It was the place I grew up, my playground, and where most of my memories with my family were made,” he told DayakDaily.

Upon reaching the scene, Hamizan found his 48-year-old father sitting silently at a neighbour’s house, visibly traumatised and unable to utter a word.
Neighbours managed to salvage a television from the fire, but other belongings, including two refrigerators, a washing machine, and most of his clothes, were completely destroyed.
The incident comes at an unfortunate time, as Hamizan was in the process of moving out to start a new chapter in Matang.
He had planned to transfer his belongings this week but had only managed to move some clothes over the past few days.
Despite the tragic loss, Hamizan tried to keep his emotions in check, even managing to crack jokes with his friends at the scene.
However, he admitted that deep inside, he was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
“I may not show it, but I’m crying inside,” he said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. — DayakDaily
