KUCHING, Sept 2: The Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce (SACC) highlighted Sarawak’s tropical rainforests, orangutans, and longhouse culture as key examples of Malaysia’s unique charm, but also noted that awareness of these attractions in Switzerland remains limited.

In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this followed a meeting with the SACC during his visit to Switzerland.

During the meeting, Tiong noted that the SACC agreed that Malaysia’s distinctive combination of arts and culture is a rare advantage that sets it apart from many other destinations—a gem yet to be fully discovered.

“In response, I emphasised our commitment to promote Malaysian cuisine and culture more vigorously, particularly through localised approaches that cater to Swiss preferences, bringing our culinary and cultural experiences closer to the people,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and assemblyman for Dudong, said that the discussion also touched on health and wellness tourism, stem cell treatments, as well as golf and yachting activities, which are popular among Swiss travellers.

Therefore, he encouraged all parties to formulate concrete proposals and maintain close engagement to accelerate implementation.

Additionally, Tourism Malaysia is considering setting up a representative office in Zurich to promote Malaysia’s tourism, arts, and culture.

“This dialogue has laid a solid foundation for further cooperation. I am confident that with the support of the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia will unlock new growth opportunities in the Swiss market.

Joining the session were Dato’ Guna Mahalingam, chairman of the Malaysia Committee and Honorary Consul of Malaysia; Tuck Seng Low, chairman of the Korea Committee and Co-Chairman of the Singapore and Indonesia Committees; and Patrick Kriesemer, chairman of the Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and UAE Committees, and co-chairman of the Vietnam, Malaysia, and Pakistan Committees. — DayakDaily
