KUCHING, Dec 1: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and The Brooke Heritage Trust have formalised their collaboration through a Letter of Agreement (LoA) to support joint efforts in research and internships.
The LoA was signed by Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, and Jason Desmond Anthony Brooke, Chairman of The Brooke Trust and Museum.
Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on research initiatives, particularly focusing on heritage preservation through technology and Sarawak’s history.
The Brooke Heritage Trust will provide a research scholarship totaling RM162,000 for one PhD scholar and two Master’s Research scholars, covering topics such as history, culture, economics, heritage, environmental study, ecology, and anthropology.
The research projects may have a global perspective while being beneficial for Sarawak, including the use of scanning technology to record Sarawak’s built heritage and the development of the Borneo Archive.
Internship opportunities will also be available for the awarded Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, with successful bursary recipients volunteering as interns at The Brooke Museums.
The collaboration underscores Swinburne’s commitment to research and education excellence, providing students with valuable work-integrated learning and industry experience.
Salliza Sideni, Manager of The Brooke Trust and Museums, along with Swinburne Sarawak Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) Dr Ida Fatimawati Adi Badiozaman and Swinburne Sarawak Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Ir Professor Sim Kwan Yong, were present at the signing ceremony.
