Miri, Dec 1: Miri City Council (MCC) urges swiftlet farm operators to relocate their farms away from densely populated locations.
MCC mayor Adam Yii said it is against local council ordinance to keep swiftlet farms in urban areas which are densely populated.
“It is an offence under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 to operate a swiftlet farm without any licences granted by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
“It is also an offence under Sarawak Building Ordinance, 1994 to use any building or part of a building for a purpose other than which it was originally constructed without the written permission from the Council,” said Yii in a full council meeting today.
He said violation of the ordinance may result in a fine of RM1,000 and shall also be liable to a further fine of RM100 each day should the offence continue. — DayakDaily
