MIRI, July 4: A workers’ quarters in Kuala Baram here was saved from fire on Tuesday night, thanks to alert residents who spotted clouds of smoke coming out from one of the rooms.
Ten firefighters from Lopeng Fire station were immediately mobilised to the scene located some 20km from the city centre, in response to an emergency alert received around 7.26pm.
It is believed that the fire had started in one of the kitchens in the workers’ quarters. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire might have been caused by cooking left unattended.
However, swift action taken by several residents at the time managed to prevent any untoward incident.
According to sources, the fire was successfully put out by the residents themselves using fire extinguishers. — DayakDaily
