Rabies infection spreads to 2 more areas

KUCHING, July 4: Two new areas have been declared as rabies infected, bringing the total number of such locales in the state to 33, as of today.

The two new areas are Kampung Mapu Kijabu (a border village in Tebedu) and 0.2km Jalan Sakar/Sebangkoi (in Jakar, Sarikei Division).

The 33 rabies infected areas are spread over five divisions, where Serian has 22 such places, Kuching (5), Samarahan (3), Sarikei (2) and Sri Aman (1).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who broke the news today, said the declaration had to be made as it happened within the 10km radius of an area that had been declared to be infected. — DayakDaily
