Construction on S’wak’s Northern Coastal Highway connecting Limbang, Lawas via Brunei to start by year-end

LAWAS, Sept 15: Construction work on Sarawak’s Northern Coastal Highway (NCH), which will connect Limbang and Lawas through Brunei, is set to begin by the end of this year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan announced this during the opening ceremony of the Lawas District Education Office in Banting here yesterday (Sept 14). Information about his announcement was made available to the media.

At the same time, he revealed that the construction of the first phase of the new Lawas Airport project, which will be implemented at the end of this year, will include a road network.

“The construction of the first phase of a deep-sea port under the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) will also be carried out by the end of this year.

“All these projects are important for balanced development throughout Sarawak in terms of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, tourism, small and medium enterprise (SME) development, and to attract more investment in line with the provision of road networks, electricity, and other facilities as well as industrial development,” he was reported as saying in his speech.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Northern Regional Development Agency (NRDA) chairman, further said the RM3.4 million Lawas Education Office was developed on a 5-acre site.

It is among the education-related projects worth RM160 million implemented in Lawas. — DayakDaily
