KUCHING, April 4: Two Sarawakian badminton players, Nurzammiezatul Syafiqqah Mohamad Zamberi and Ashley Irenaeus Jeck, have been selected to represent Malaysia at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dubai Para Badminton International 2025 as well as the ASEAN Para Games 2025 in Thailand.

According to TVS, Nurzammiezatul Syafiqqah said that their selection not only makes Sarawak proud but also shows the capabilities of the nation’s para badminton players on the world stage.

“I felt both shocked and excited when I received the news. I did not expect to be chosen to join the tournament in Dubai,” he said when contacted by TVS.

He also added that the change in training intensity has become more noticeable since the preparations for the tournament began.

“I am now getting used to the new training methods and at the same time, I have the opportunity to learn many new techniques with my teammates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ashley also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity given and shared the progress of her training sessions, which are now at almost the maximum level.

“Our training is now at 60 to 70 per cent ahead of the BWF championship in Dubai in early May,” she said.

According to Ashley, the training intensity has also been increased compared to the previous year to ensure they achieve the targets set by the coaching staff, the National Sports Council (MSN), and relevant parties.

“The training pattern is now more focused and exceeds last year’s preparation level because it is a priority to ensure that each athlete achieves the set targets,” she said.

The national para-badminton camp is scheduled to depart for Dubai on May 3. If excellent results are achieved in Dubai, it is expected to be a catalyst towards the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand. — DayakDaily
