KUCHING, Aug 7: Sarawak Water is currently investigating a suspected leak involving its 1,100mm diameter Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) water pipeline along Jalan Matang.
According to a statement, the pipeline is one of Sarawak Water’s main pipelines that delivers treated water to the Bukit Siol Reservoir, supplying consumers across Kuching, Petra Jaya, and the surrounding areas.
“At this stage, there is no scheduled water supply interruption. Our technical team is carrying out detailed investigations to determine the exact location and extent of the suspected leak before deciding on the next course of action.
“As part of the investigation, Sarawak Water needs to access an isolation valve located within the road median to allow the pipeline to be safely isolated and further assessed.
“We are currently working closely with the Public Works Department (JKR) to facilitate the necessary excavation works and safe access to the valve,” it said.
It added that, as the pipeline is among the main ones supplying treated water to Kuching and the surrounding areas, any repair works will be carefully planned to minimise disruption to consumers.
Once the investigation is completed, Sarawak Water will determine the most appropriate repair method and implementation schedule.
“Should the repair works require a temporary water supply interruption, Sarawak Water will issue an official notice in advance. The notice will include details of the affected areas, the expected duration of the interruption, and the mitigation measures that will be implemented to assist affected consumers.
“In the meantime, safety barriers, warning signs and traffic control measures have been put in place around the affected area. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow all traffic instructions when travelling through Jalan Matang Batu 6,” it said.
The utility provider also assured the public that a team is monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure that any required works can be carried out safely, efficiently, and with the least possible inconvenience to consumers. — DayakDaily
