KUCHING, Nov 1: A delegation from the Sarawak Transport Ministry led by its Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin went on a working visit to Singapore from Oct 31 to Nov 1 to study and learn from Singapore’s experiences in planning, managing, and operating its land transportation system.
Lee was accompanied by the Ministry’s permanent secretary Dato Ir Alice Jawan Empaling, and senior officers.
According to a press release, during the trip, the delegation made a courtesy visit to two Singaporean Ministers — the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Development, Sim Ann, and Transport Minister, S. Iswaran.
The courtesy call provided an avenue for Lee to foster closer collaboration between Sarawak and Singapore, particularly in the transport sector. With its advanced public transportation system, Singapore will become a reference point for Sarawak in developing its own public transportation system using Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) and bus.
The delegation also met with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, the Public Transport Council (PTC), and SMRT Corporation Ltd.
“The study visit to Singapore is important and of great value to the Sarawak Ministry of Transport as the Ministry is in the process of developing Sarawak’s public transportation system,” said the press release. — DayakDaily
