President of the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF) and Secretary-General of the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF), Datuk Abdul Halim Kader, revealed that PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan specifically requested that young Sarawakian players, who have showcased exceptional skill, be given the honour of representing the nation.

“Datuk Mohd Sumali has asked the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) to nominate a team manager and select the players who will compete in the championship,” he was quoted as saying.

Abdul Halim made these remarks during a press conference held yesterday (Aug 22) in Bintulu.

He went on to say that while the official list of players has not yet been finalised, Sarawak is expected to name six male and six female players for the competition.

He further noted that the decision to choose Sarawak for this prestigious event reflects the State’s commendable efforts in hosting the sepak takraw event at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) Sarawak 2024, excelling in areas such as event organisation, facilities, technical support, and refereeing. — DayakDaily
