KUCHING, Sept 2: Sarawakians must stay united to ensure another big win for the Sarawak government in the coming 15th General Election (GE15) while Peninsular Malaysia is disoriented, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said this is the chance for Sarawak to stand strong so that it could fight for more of Sarawak’s rights to be reinstated in the near future.

“They (Peninsular Malaysia) are so disoriented for the first time in over 50 years. So, we (Sarawak) need to appreciate this (chance).

“(Its) not that we are praying for political disorder. If they want to fight with each other, let them be. We (in Sarawak) only need to appreciate the opportunity and stay united.

“We take back more of our rights and fight for more. Health autonomy, education autonomy… We take all these back,” he said during the Kuching Hokkien Association committee installation ceremony at a local restaurant here tonight.

By the time when the political scenario in Peninsular Malaysia stabilises, Dr Sim said, Sarawak would have been rich and strong enough to defend itself.

He said Sarawak would have reached its 2030 aspirations to become a high-income State earlier, if the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led government could secure the votes of all Sarawakians in GE15.

“I don’t know when will the next general election be. I only know that when general election comes, Sarawakians must seize the opportunity to be united.

“If Sarawak can win big, we can reach our 2030 goals faster. By then, our Sarawak will be strong, rich, green with proud Sarawakians,” he added. — DayakDaily
