KUCHING: A political secretary of a Sarawak federal minister was arrested this afternoon over a probe into misappropriation of government funds.
It was learnt that the 61-year-old man who is a Datuk, was arrested when he went to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya sometime after noon to have his statement recorded.
The man is also a member of a Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.
When contacted, the Sarawak federal minister refused to comment.
The man is the fifth to be arrested over the probe into the misappropriation of millions of ringgit from the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK).
This comes on the heels of four arrests earlier this month comprising PTPK’s chief executive, secretary, assistant finance officer, and a director of a company.
It is believed that up to RM40 million allocated by the federal government between 2016 and 2017 may have been misappropriated, allegedly to provide skills training programmes for the unemployed.
A preliminary investigation suggested that RM15 million in 2016 and RM25 million this year was misappropriated.
