KUCHING, Sept 11: South Korea’s Seoul Metropolitan Government officials have invited Sarawak to the city and learn about Transport Operation and Information Service (TOPIS)— a general transport control centre responsible for operating and managing Seoul’s overall traffic.
Sarawak’s Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the invitation was extended to him during a courtesy call by a South Korean delegation at the former’s office last Friday (Sept 9).
The three-member delegation was led by the Seoul Metropolitan Government director of the Policy Division, Lee Chang Seok, and joined by manager of Transport Policy Division, Lee Chae Yeon, and Specialist on Overseas Project Development/Implementation, Doong Hoon Shin.
During the meeting, Kim Shin told the South Korean officials that Sarawak is in the midst of implementing its first hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), which is still under trial or proof of concept (POC).
Following this, Chang Seok informed the minister that Seoul Metropolitan City has a mass rapid public transport and bus system, including bus rapid transit (BRT), with all these being closely monitored by TOPIS.
This later prompted South Korean officials to invite Kim Shin to visit South Korea, especially the Seoul Metropolitan Government, who would be happy to share their experience on TOPIS with Sarawak.
