KUCHING, Aug 23: The Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have strengthened their long-standing partnership with the launch of CENHUA 2.0, aimed at advancing technology skills, innovation, and talent development for Sarawak and the wider ASEAN region.
According to a press release, the initiative was launched following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ASEAN AI Summit 2025 in Kuala Lumpur today.
Under the collaboration, CENHUA 2.0 will introduce industry-based certification courses in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), develop academic content that incorporates industry case studies, and explore the application of AI on CENTEXS’ organisational data.
The programme will also introduce Huawei’s Digital Leadership Excellence (DLE) Programme in Sarawak to give digital leaders exposure to international best practices, enabling them to compete and collaborate at regional and global levels in an AI-driven economy.
“We are taking this partnership to the next level. With Huawei, we are going deeper into areas like data centres and creating another Large Language Model for Malaysia.
“We have worked with Huawei for the past seven years under ‘CENHUA’, which means moving upwards together. Today’s signing marks the start of CENHUA 2.0, expanding from Sarawak and Malaysia into ASEAN,” said CENTEXS chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman.
He added that the new phase would embed AI across CENTEXS’ 104 training programmes spanning 10 industries, covering technical areas such as data centre engineering, algorithms and datasets, as well as practical AI applications.
Meanwhile, Huawei Malaysia CEO Simon Sun reaffirmed the company’s support towards Sarawak’s digital transformation agenda.
“The future is about collaboration, innovation and continuous learning. By combining Huawei’s global technology expertise with CENTEXS’ strong local foundation, we can deliver programmes that empower talent, promote innovation and create long-term economic value,” he said.
Syeed signed the MoU on behalf of CENTEXS, and Wan Wei, the director of the Malaysia Sarawak Business Department, representing Huawei Malaysia.
It was witnessed by CENTEXS’ chief academic officer of the Aerospace, Digital, and Green Energy Academy, Dr Dayang Hanani Abang Ibrahim, and Huawei Malaysia CEO, Simon Sun.
Among those present were Angkasa Research Technology Centre (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd business development director Dato’ Marina Hashim and CENTEXS Commercial Sarawak (CCS) general manager Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri. — DayakDaily
