KUCHING, April 29: The Sarawak government will conduct a study on the implications of new requirements to improve the public service sector in the State.
According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he had tasked Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki to conduct the study.
“In fact, I have an idea that might be better than what will be announced on May 1,” he said during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by the Office of the Premier of Sarawak at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly building today.
On April 25, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would announce the revised Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) on May 1, which will involve the highest financial implication.
Explaining further, Abang Johari opined that instead of using the public service pension scheme, the appointment of contribution-based positions (Jawatan Berasaskan Caruman or JBC) is a more appropriate approach.
He said that with JBC, civil servants have access to transfer from the public sector to the private sector, and the terms of service are better than those of the pension scheme.
“This is the innovation in terms of the service scheme that we want to provide to public civil servants.
“I believe that with this approach, as long as it is financially capable, the government will be able to implement a competitive service system and provide opportunities for civil servants’ future,” he added. — DayakDaily
