KUCHING, Sept 30: The Sarawak government will review the electricity and water bill discounts before the end of 2021 as it looks for another extension for the discounts under Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) aid programme.
Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said this reassessment would be considered for extension as the government realises that there are many who are still experiencing financial issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Previously, the Sarawak government has provided discounts to electricity and water bills until the end of December.
“We will do a review before the end of the year as the pandemic is still affecting a large portion of the people, especially those who are living off daily wages.
“Let’s help one another out during these tough times,” he said during a press conference after handing over the Kemena minor rural project (MRP) grants at the Bintulu Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Office yesterday (Sept 29).
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), there were a total of 40 recipients comprising representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) receiving the MRP grants amounting RM1,153,173.84.
Another RM400,000 for the Niah and Suai areas will be handed to recipients on Friday (Oct 1).
Also present were Sarawak Chief Minister’s political secretary Jenny Banga, Sebauh District Office administrative officer Baithy Tini Nikey, and Banta Baong chief. — DayakDaily
