KUCHING, May 13: The Sarawak Government is developing the Sarawak Native Recognition Application System to enable applicants to apply for native status online through the ‘sarawak.gov.my’ portal.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayal said the system is expected to be fully completed this year.
Meanwhile, he said from November 2023 to April 2024, Sarawak Native Recognition Committee receives 1,646 native status applications and had approved 1,338 of them, which constitutes 81.29 per cent.
He said following the implementation of the Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 on Nov 1, 2023, all native status applications can be made at any District Office or Sub-District Office throughout Sarawak.
“In the period from November 2023 to April 2024, a total of 1,646 applications for Sarawak native status were considered by the Sarawak Native Recognition Committee.
“Of that total, 1,338 or 81.29 per cent of applications were approved. Relevant District Offices and Sub-District Offices notify and present the Certificate of Recognition as Native Sarawak to applicants in stages,” said Sikie when presenting his ministerial winding-up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today. — DayakDaily
