KUCHING, Aug 9: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved three projects amounting to RM322 million for infrastructure projects in the Julau and Pakan districts.

The three projects are:

  1. Upgrading of Jalan Nanga Lasi, Balut, and Suchong area in Julau (RM92 million)
  2. Construction of Jalan Lijan in Julau (RM80 million)
  3. Construction of Jalan Nanga Entaih and 13 spur roads in Pakan (RM150 million)

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, he said that the implementation of these projects will improve transportation efficiency, shorten travel time between Julau, Betong, Sri Aman, and Kuching, and open wider market opportunities for local products.

“When this road is completed, travel time from Meluan to Kuching will take only about two and a half hours, enabling residents to travel to and from the city on the same day,” he said when officiating the Nanga Lasi Bridge in Julau today.

He also explained that funding for infrastructure projects in Sarawak is entirely sourced from the State’s own revenue without depending on federal government funds.

“We are not dependent on Kuala Lumpur. We use technology, science, and ‘financial re-engineering’ methods to increase state revenue,” he said, referring to the success in raising Sarawak’s annual income from RM6 billion to RM14 billion.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, and Meluan assemblyman, Rolland Duat Jubin, were also present. — DayakDaily
