SIBU, Nov 20: A suspected gas cylinder leak caused an explosion and fire damage to a washing machine, injuring a father and child at their home in Lorong Permai Timur 9.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sungai Merah Station received an emergency call at 1.15pm today and immediately deployed a team of firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported that the explosion also caused part of the kitchen ceiling to collapse.
Both injured victims were rushed to Sibu Hospital for treatment before the Bomba team arrived.
Firefighters remain on-site to assess the situation.
In a separate incident, a house on Jalan Poh Yew was damaged by fire, with significant damage to the walls and ceiling.
All three residents were reported safe.
Bomba Sibu Station, which responded to the emergency at 11:44pm, reported that the fire had been extinguished by the residents before firefighters arrived.
Upon reaching the scene, firefighters assessed the situation and ensured there were no remaining sources of ignition.
