Surge in high-value foreign visitors via S-MM2H programme: 2,462 approved since 2007

KUCHING, May 14: Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has reported that 2,462 high-value foreign visitors have had their applications approved through the Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) Programme since 2007.

According to Abdul Karim, the top 10 countries are China (340), United Kingdom (335), Taiwan (246), Hong Kong (240), the United States of America (184), Singapore (182), South Korea (157), Australia (114), Japan (114), and Indonesia (113).

“S-MM2H is a programme that allows high-valued foreign visitors who fulfill certain criteria to stay in Sarawak with multiple-entry visa.

“My ministry continues to enhance requirements and regulations through cabinet approval to protect the interests of Sarawak while attracting high-value tourists,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech on the seventh day of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

The minister stated that the total number of S-MM2H participants increased by 22.90 per cent, from 441 in 2022 to 542 in 2023.

“In 2023, the Fixed Deposits (FDs) placement from S-MM2H participants was RM56.7 million in Sarawak local banks.

“As of March 2024, 146 participants have been approved with FDs placement of RM28.8 million in Sarawak local banks,” Abdul Karim added. — DayakDaily
