SUPP Youth urges Chong to be a “true Sarawakian”

KUCHING, Oct 30: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth secretary Milton Foo has called on Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen to be a true Sarawakian by speaking up for Sarawak.

He told Chong not be an agent for Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng or an agent for the Pakatan Harapan-led federal government.

“Be yourself. Be proud of yourself, your identity as Sarawakian. Talk on our behalf. Speak on behalf of Sarawakians.

“Go to the federal government. Go to Parliament. Go to the Cabinet and voice out for Sarawak, not the other way round.

“Don’t go to KL for a few days and come back and tell what Sarawakians should do or should not do. It is not the way. That is not the right way. You are our representative,” said Foo at a press conference held at SUPP headquarters here today.

He also challenged Chong, who is also Stampin MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, to come out with a list of goods of which the prices had gone down.

“I challenge Chong to release the list of goods that have come down in prices, especially we all know that there is a price difference between West Malaysia and East Malaysia,” he said.

Foo added that there had been inconsistencies in the prices of goods between Peninsular Malaysia and those of Sabah and Sarawak, citing the example of the national cars.

He said in general, the salaries of East Malaysians are lower than those of West Malaysians, yet East Malaysians pay higher prices in terms of necessities, like daily-used goods and cars, which resulted in additional economic burden onto the middle and lower income groups in both states. — DayakDaily
