SUPP Youth chief to Chong: You’re a joke

KUCHING, Oct 30: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang has chided Sarawak Pakatan Harapan chief Chong Chieng Jen for insinuating that the state government does not know how to manage its money.

“Chong has been telling Sarawakians that our government is not good enough, that it does not know how to handle its revenue when the federal government pays the revenue.

“It is a joke. The whole world knows that the Sarawak government for the past decades, through their effort, have RM31 billion of reserve funds. It is a responsible government.

“We don’t squander the reserves in our treasury. We still have the reserves, just in case the federal government continues to neglect (our) development or (neglect) granting us funds,” said Tiang at a press conference here today.

On Chong’s assurance that he would fight for 30 per cent development expenditure for Sarawak, Tiang demands a definition of the term “30 per cent”.

“What is 30 per cent? Translate that into Ringgit. Thirty per cent of RM2 or 30 per cent of RM2 billion?

“You are now in the government, a deputy minister, not a street fighter. How can a deputy minister come to the people by throwing percentages?

“The chief minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) announced RM2.8 billions for water supplies, RM2.3 billions for electricity, RM6 billions for roads. That’s governing,” said Tiang. — DayakDaily
