KUCHING, May 6: A police report has been filed against Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong over her two video postings on social media alleging that the Sarawak government had used Sarawakians as ‘guinea pigs’ by administrating expired Covid-19 vaccines.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central assistant secretary Liew Yeong Yee said he, accompanied by SUPP Youth Kuching branch Eric Tay, had lodged the police report at Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD) today.

“Such a statement is untruthful and baseless. The Federal Minister of Health, National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and the Sarawak government have issued several statements explaining that the vaccine manufacturers had extended all the expiration dates of their respective kind of vaccines to later dates.

“Thus, the booster dose vaccines are not expired and are effective,” said Liew in a statement today.

He continued to say that Yong’s claims have created public disorder, instigated fear and worry among the people of Sarawak, leading to many being hesitant to receive their second booster doses.

Liew said Yong’s baseless accusations have also jeopardised the effort of the Sarawak government in combating Covid-19.

“Consequentially, the lives of people and the safety of society are at stake,” he added.

Yong had, on April 28, posted two videos on social media, questioning why the Sarawak government is administering expired vaccines as booster shots to Sarawakians and treating the people as ‘guinea pigs’.

She also called out Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian to provide an explanation regarding the matter. — DayakDaily
