KUCHING, Nov 30: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) today passed six key resolutions during its Annual Delegates’ Conference (ADC) 2025 held at the party’s headquarters here, reaffirming its commitment to champion Sarawak’s interests and strengthen political stability under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

In its first resolution, SUPP declared its firm and unequivocal support for the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, fully endorsing his strategic blueprint for accelerating Sarawak’s development. The party also pledged continued cooperation with all GPS component parties in the run-up to the 13th Sarawak Election (PRN13).

Delegates also called on the federal government to intensify efforts to combat misinformation, disinformation and the rising impact of social media echo chambers, warning that unchecked online manipulation could threaten social harmony and national stability.

On youth and education, SUPP urged the Ministry of Education (MOE) to formally recognise mental resilience as an essential element of student well-being and to incorporate mental health education and emotional resilience programmes into the national school system.

Another key social agenda raised was support for the elderly. The party proposed that the Sarawak government introduce a Sarawak Elderly Welfare Scheme to provide an annual RM1,000 assistance for senior citizens aged 65 and above, aimed at improving their quality of life.

In a related resolution, SUPP also called for all Sarawakian senior citizens to be eligible for benefits under the Senior Citizens Health Benefit (SCHB) Scheme.

Reaffirming its long-held position within GPS, SUPP once again stressed its commitment to the “Sarawak First” principle, emphasising the importance of strong, united, locally-based political parties to safeguard Sarawak’s rights and the well-being of all Sarawakians.

The resolutions were unanimously adopted during the one-day conference. – DayakDaily
