KUCHING, Jan 16: New ‘Muda’ and ‘Puteri’ units will be formed within Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth and Women Sections, respectively, to cater to those aged 18 to 28.

Deputy Chief Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the unit structure and further details would be disclosed once finalised by both sections.

“Once we finalise the structure, our party constitution will be amended accordingly so that the units will officially be part of SUPP,” he said during the SUPP 2021 Annual Delegates’ Conference at Dewan Sa’ati here today.

He said the conference was supposed to be held in 2021 but was postponed due to the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12) held in December.

Dr Sim, also SUPP president, said its State-level party election would be from May 21 to 22 this year.

This follows the branch-level elections that will take place from April 8 to 30 and elections for Youth and Women Sections from May 19 to 20.

Meanwhile, during the conference, Dr Sim also revealed SUPP’s six resolutions in the coming year.

Other than congratulating Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for leading Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) towards a historic victory by winning 76 out of 82 State seats in PRN12, SUPP also proposed to implement an online party membership application processing system.

SUPP will also struggle as part of the GPS-led State government to fight for more fund allocations from the federal government, and at least one-third of parliamentary seats for Sarawak as per the partnership agreed in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) since Sarawak and Sabah’s statuses as regions are now recognised.

Another resolution is to urge the federal Education Ministry to allow 90 per cent of trained Sarawakian teachers to be posted to Sarawak. — DayakDaily
