MIRI, December 4: Incumbent for Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew is happy that Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang was nominated to contest in Pujut.
Ting said this after launching the Sepakat @ Komuniti programme hosted by Jabatan Penerangan Miri (JaPen) in Kampung Luak today.
When asked about SUPP’s target this coming election, Ting, the party’s secretary-general, said that it has never stopped serving Sarawakians since its establishment in 1959.
“We are all committed to delivering our tasks to the people. We never stop as we are service-oriented,” he said.
“We leave it to the voters to decide; we’ll wait and see on December 18,” he said.
When asked about SUPP’s chances of winning all 18 seats this coming election, Ting said that while nothing in politics is certain, SUPP has been working very hard to serve the people, so he believes they can prevail.
Yii’s nomination for the seat (Pujut) was announced by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in Kuching yesterday.
The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pujut branch chairman was among the eight newcomers from SUPP to contest in the 12th Sarawak Election together with Dato Wee Hong Seng (Padungan), Billy Sujang (Opar), Desmond Sateng Sanjan (Engkilili), Chieng Jin Ek (Bukit Assek), Pang Leong Ming (Tanjung Batu), Senator Robert Lau (Bawang Assan), and Michael Tiang (Palawan).
Meanwhile, on the standard operation procedures (SOPs) for the election, Ting said Melaka’s election SOPs may be applicable for Sarawak, as the Election Commission (EC) has yet to come up with SOPs for the Sarawak election.
“Perhaps the Melaka’s election SOPs can be the guidelines for the Sarawak election, as we are still waiting for an announcement from the EC and Ministry of Health (MOH),” he said. ― DayakDaily
