KUCHING, June 23: Beware of an online scam known as ‘Sky9 Capital’, warns Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaint Bureau (SUPP PCB) chief Milton Foo.
The scam, he claims, involves adding people to a WhatsApp or Telegram group chat called ‘Sky9_95’ and enticing them to become followers of some YouTube merchant accounts while promising to reward participants with daily pocket money of RM250.
Alerting the public on this scam tactic, Foo said he personally experienced being added to the group chat by an unknown individual at around 9am today.
Foo noted that this was the same scam reported in the news recently where Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri warned the public not to entertain such a “money for likes” fraud that lures victim with a handsome monetary reward for likes or follows.
On June 18, 2023, it was reported that a female victim fell for the promises of high returns or remuneration from a representative claiming to be from Sky9 Capital. In just three days (June 13-16), the victim made 14 transactions totalling RM201,186 to seven different bank accounts.
“The public is advised to refrain from downloading suspicious apps, accessing questionable websites, or clicking unverified links provided through WhatsApp or Telegram.
“More importantly, do not share personal information, including bank details, and avoid conducting online banking transactions with strangers or unknown third parties,” he warned in a statement today.
Foo also reported these scam tactics, where scammers invite people to join WhatsApp or Telegram groups, to the Sarawak Commercial Crime Department. — DayakDaily
