SIBU, May 26: It is about time that Bawang Assan has a new leader who is young and vibrant.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian in saying this today asserted that a new leader would help spearhead the constituency’s development.
Dr Sim said that the area has long been lagging behind especially in infrastructure developments.
“The most appropriate person to lead Bawang Assan this time is Councilor Kevin Lau. He is young, energetic and very suitable to lead Bawang Assan to a better direction.
“Bawang Assan is currently far behind and needs a new leader who is really loyal to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said at the SUPP 65th Anniversary Celebration and Gawai Dayak gathering organised by SUPP Bawang Assan.
Kevin is the SUPP Bawang Assan Community Development chief and the chairman of the Standing Committee on Environment and Public Health in Sibu Rural District Council.
He is also the youngest son of Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming.
Dr Sim said that even though Bawang Assan lagged behind, it often got the attention of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and himself.
According to him, recently Abang Johari has approved a special allocation for Bawang Assan through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
Meanwhile, regarding the problem of water supply in Bawang Assan, Dr Sim said that he would bring the matter to the relevant ministry.
He also stated that the Bawang Assan area will be included in the Sibu city redevelopment project.
Among those present at the ceremony were SUPP’s Deputy President I Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem, Vice President Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, SUPP Youth chief Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew and event organising chairman Councilor Kevin Lau. — DayakDaily
