SIBU, March 11: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pelawan service centre is offering incentives to newlywed couples (RM500) and parents of newborn babies (RM300).
Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang said the two incentives are in conjunction with the opening of his service centre located at Sungai Merah.
“For the incentive for newlyweds, if at least one spouse is a Pelawan voter, they can apply for the incentive,” he said.
Tiang, who is also Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II, said the incentive is to assist the newlyweds financially.
“We understand that young newlyweds can face financial challenges, which is why our State government recently launched the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) to help young people buy their first house,” he said.
As for the incentive for newborns, he said that at least one parent must also be a voter in the Pelawan constituency to be eligible for it.
“We want to help young people, especially young mothers, like the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, which allocates an incentive of RM450 for pregnant mothers,” he said.
On the opening of the new service centre, he said the six kapitans would take turns being stationed at the service centre to provide their assistance.
The service centre will operate from 8am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to 12pm on Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday and on public holidays.
During the event, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting were present. — DayakDaily
