KUCHING, Nov 21: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Youth urges Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to exempt hawkers in Sarawak from mandatory e-invoicing.
In a statement today, its chief Wung Duk Ying said that if exemption is not possible, he hoped the annual income threshold could be raised from RM150,000 to RM500,000 to alleviate the burden on hawkers and micro-enterprises.
“Due to the economic damage caused by the three-year pandemic, micro-enterprises and hawkers are now in a recovery phase. The government should implement measures to alleviate their burden.
“However, the Inland Revenue Board’s requirement for micro-enterprises and hawkers to implement the electronic invoicing system directly increases their burden, causing operational difficulties and losses.
“IRB’s regulation is more harmful than beneficial, akin to ‘killing the goose that lays the golden eggs,’ and is very unfair to micro-enterprises and hawkers,” Wung said.
He said he was present when Malaysian Federation of Hawkers and Petty Traders Associations president and Federation of Sarawak Hawkers Association chairman, Voon Chin Leong had submitted a memorandum to Federation of Sarawak Chinese Associations president, Dato Richard Wee, on Oct 10.
Wung said the memorandum requested Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to assist in getting hawkers in Sarawak exempted from e-invoicing.
Meanwhile, Wung also said it was regretful that Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen and the four Sarawak DAP Members of Parliament have not voiced out in Parliament against e-invoicing being enforced on micro-enterprises and hawkers.
“Hawkers and micro-enterprises hope that these representatives, whose actions do not match their words, will strive for substantial solutions for the people of Sarawak rather than making empty statements outside the chamber,” he said. — DayakDaily
