KUCHING, April 24: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching chairwoman Datuk Lily Yong today announces stepping down from all SUPP Central Working Committee (CWC) posts.

The reason, she said,  was because she wanted to put all her efforts in the branch’s new committee members, to plan and chart the branch’s development and prosperity.

“I will not seek to be elected. I have confirmed that with the committee,” she told reporters after the branch’s triennial general meeting held at a local hotel, here today.

Yong disclosed that the meeting had also nominated SUPP Kuching publicity and information secretary Peter Pui to be a member in the CWC.

She said Pui who has been a Kuching South City Council advisor for 10 years  holds a political science degree and was very experienced.

“So we trust he will coordinate and carry his duty in the Kuching branch and Central,” she added.

Meanwhile, when asked by reporters whether this would be her last term as SUPP Kuching chairwoman, Yong said there was no need to speculate.

She said SUPP Kuching branch is now focusing on making the branch more vocal and stronger to boost the image of the party.

“As the second branch established in the party, I think we have a duty to make sure SUPP Kuching continues to do well as we are answerable to our forefathers,” she said. — DayakDaily
