BAU, July 3: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has identified a few potential candidate for the Mambong seat in the coming state election.

However, SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting is keeping the names close to his chest until the announcement by party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“Yes, we will contest in Mambong, but you just wait for my party president to make the announcement,” he said when met at Libiki Bamboo Resort at Jalan Krokong in Bau today.

Ting, who is Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture was accompanying federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri for the visit.

Ting did not disclose when Dr Sim would make the announcement.

Earlier in May, Ting had said that the party would contest in Mambong, which is among the 20 seats that the party intends to contest in the coming 12th state election.

Mambong is currently held by Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, who joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) after he left Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Meanwhile, PBB Mambong branch acting chairman Datuk Detta Samen on June 12 said Dr Jerip, who is Assistant Minister of Transport, can win the seat because of PBB’s strength in the area and Dr Jerip’s own supporters.—DayakDaily
