KUCHING, April 30: Recommending Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Stampin Chong Chieng Jen as a federal minister if Pakatan Harapan (PH) becomes the government is “a joke and an insult to the people of Sarawak’, says Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman Wilfred Yap.
He pointed out that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng who made the announcement yesterday used the Malay word “mencadang” which is “to recommend” Chong to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a federal minister.
Another fact, as pointed out by other SUPP leaders, is that no Sarawakian representative, including Chong, was named in Pakatan Harapan’s original shadow cabinet, which shows that the last-minute announcement was only an “after-thought”
SUPP candidate for Stampin Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said that there are currently six federal ministers from Sarawak in the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal cabinet line up, compared to PH’s proposal of having just one Chinese minister from Sarawak.
Dr Sim said he did not believe in joining the opposition coalition to do negative things and stressed that nobody can form the next federal government without Sarawak BN as they do not have the numbers.
“I thought Lim will announce that Chong will be (appointed as) the deputy prime minister of Malaysia,” said Dr Sim, ridiculing the so-called big announcement by DAP.
Meanwhile, Yap challenged Chong to show the people his report card as a Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching for the past 15 years.
“There is no Stampin manifesto (from DAP), only the ‘new deal’ from Pakatan Harapan which is West Malaysia-based. It shows that Chong is only a mouthpiece of PH”, he added. — DayakDaily
