Sungai Merah firefighters pull suicidal foreigner to safety

KUCHING, Dec 13: Firefighters prevented a suicide attempt by a foreign national at a hotel near the Sibu Bus Terminal, today.

Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement today, revealed that after receiving the alert regarding the incident at 3.45 pm, a team of six firefighters led by PBK II KUP Augustine Enyang were immediately deployed to the location.

“After arriving at the location, the operation commander reported that firefighters proceeded with a size-up operation, and found that a 27-year-old female, who is a China national, was standing on the outer ledge of the hotel, on the fifth floor.

“Firefighters then took action by attempting to persuading her, while at the same time preparing rescue equipment. After the preparations were set, one of the firefighters then jumped from the next room window, and managed to grab the woman while she was still talking to one of them,” it revealed.

The statement noted, the woman was successfully rescued by firefighters, without any injuries, and was handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action. — DayakDaily
