KUCHING, Aug 15: The High Court here has conducted another round of case management proceedings in the ongoing legal dispute involving Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, one of the sons of Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
The suit, filed against his stepmother Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib and RHB Investment Bhd, reached a new phase with updates presented during this session.
During the proceedings, Shankar, the legal counsel of Ragad communicated that the first defendant requires additional time to formulate a response to Enclosure 49 and 50 which introduced new issues.
The instructions from Sulaiman’s side were clear: any response must adhere to the details laid out in the letter found in Enclosure 50.
Shankar in terms said his instructions were to request a 14-day extension to file an affidavit in response to these affidavits, primarily focusing on the supplementary affidavit of Sulaiman (Enclosure 50).
The request for an extension is grounded in Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s recent surgery and Ragad’s full-time attendance to Tun, leading to difficulties in communication due to Tun’s hospitalisation in Istanbul.
Despite the challenges, Tun’s situation is improving, justifying the need for the requested extension.
The court stipulated that the first defendant’s affidavit in response should be filed and served by Aug 25, adhering to a two-week timeline from the last Friday, Aug 11.
The court indicated a further mention date of Sept 4 to continue the legal proceedings.
The legal battle involves Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, the managing director of Cahya Mata Sarawak Group, and his stepmother, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, along with RHB Bank Bhd.
Sulaiman, the second son of Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud from his marriage to the late Datuk Patinggi Puan Sri Laila Taib, has a notable political history, having served as a federal Deputy Tourism Minister and a former Member of Parliament for Kota Samarahan. — DayakDaily
