Sukma 2024: Wushu athlete Carmen Chaw delivers second medal with bronze in women’s taijiquan

KUCHING, Aug 14: Sarawak wushu athlete Carmen Chaw Jia Min clinched a bronze medal in the women’s taijiquan event at 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 this morning.

The 17-year-old scored 9.573 points during the event, held at SSC Wushu Hall, Petra Jaya here.

The gold medal went to Selangor’s Mandy Cebelle Chen, who scored 9.606 points, while the Federal Territory’s Kwan Yong Xin claimed silver with 9.600 points.

This is Chaw’s second medal at Sukma 2024, following her silver win in the women’s taijijian event yesterday (Aug 14).

Her achievements bring Sarawak’s medal tally to four, all contributed through wushu. Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern secured a gold medal in the women’s changquan event, and Fung Tai Leong earned silver in the men’s nanquan.

Wushu, a sport that combines elements of martial arts and aesthetics is offering a total of 28 gold medals at this year’s Sukma. — DayakDaily
