KUCHING, Aug 16: Sarawak’s wushu athlete Belda Chan Zhi Yi showcased her remarkable skills at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024, earning a silver medal in the women’s nandao event.
Competing at the Wushu Training Centre in Petra Jaya, Chan delivered an impressive performance with a score of 9.470.
However, the top spot was claimed by Melaka’s Nor Azira Kamarudzaman, who secured the gold with a slightly higher score of 9.570. Penang’s Gillian Ong Ying Sze completed the podium, taking home the bronze with a score of 9.436.
In the men’s nandao event, Sarawak’s Fung Tai Leong also made his mark, clinching the bronze medal with a score of 9.583. This marked Fung’s second bronze medal at the games, having also secured bronze in the men’s nanquan event just two days ago.
The gold medal in this category went to Melaka’s Bryan Ti Kai Jie, who outshined his competitors with a leading score of 9.613. Perak’s Foo Mun Fei closely followed, earning the silver with a score of 9.596.
The competition was fierce, highlighting the high level of talent present at this year’s Sukma games. — DayakDaily
