KUCHING, Aug 21: Sarawakian swimmer Kelly Teo Yao bagged her fourth gold medal of the games at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) today.
The 18-year-old clocked a time of 9 minutes 23.77 seconds in the women’s 800 metres freestyle event which took place at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, Petra Jaya here.
The silver medal went to Selangor’s Shannon Tan Yan Qing (9:32.46) while Sabah’s Chu Xin Ying took home bronze (9:34.42).
Teo’s three other gold medals were delivered in the women’s 200m freestyle, 400m individual medley and 200m backstroke events.
Apart from Teo, fellow compatriot Hector Ho Rze Jun and Kayleigh Ang Zhi Xuan each won bronze in the men’s 50m breaststroke event and women’s 200m butterfly event, respectively.
Their victory brought Sarawak’s medal count in swimming to six gold and six bronze so far, totalling 12 medals.
The swimming event will continue until Friday (Aug 23) with 16 more gold medals up for grabs. — DayakDaily
