Sukma 2024: Sarawak taekwondo athletes deliver four gold, one silver

KUCHING, Aug 18: Sarawak added four gold medals through taekwondo in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) Sarawak 2024.

The events, which was held at Sarawak Indoor Stadium today, saw Pretty Amisha Amanda Francesca beating Selangor’s Nurul Aesyah Aqilah Mohd Sukeri in the over 73kg women category with a score of 2-0, followed by AJ Ong Yang Yi in the 87kg men category against Nur Putra Adam Azlan Noor Azlan from Federal Territories (2-0).

In the 73kg category, Puteri Durratun Zulaikha Samat bested Fu Chervyn from Terengganu (2-0) in the 73kg women category while Mohamad Zulhafiz Zulhadi beat Lim Jia Wei from Federal Territories (2-0) in the over 87kg men category.

Fellow Sarawakian athlete Christine Ying Zhen Li settled for silver medal after being bested by Nadia Aina Syazwani Ishak from Perak (0-2) in the 67kg women’s final.

The four gold and one silver medals bring Sarawak’s total medal tally to 23 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze as of press time.

The medal presentation will be held tomorrow on Aug 19. — DayakDaily
