KUCHING, Aug 9: The 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) Secretariat will discuss with the police on the possibility of relaxing some traffic laws during the national sports event.

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah took note of a reporter’s concern on a previous issue during Sukma 2016, where many spectators were issued summons for various traffic violations, especially illegal parking.

Asked whether this year’s Sukma will provide shuttle buses to the venue to prevent the same issue, Abdul Karim replied in negative.

“At this moment, no (shuttle buses).

“However, we will sit down with the police to be more lenient on this matter,” he told reporters during a press conference on the Sukma mobile app launching ceremony held at Baitul Makmur II here today.

Abdul Karim further said that many people usually park in front of mosques and churches on Fridays and Sundays, but they are not compounded.

Thus, he hoped that such leniency would be imposed during Sukma too.

“I also hope that those who want to go to the venue to see the sports events will not park carelessly to the extent of obstructing the traffic and causing congestion.

“If the traffic is obstructed, I do not blame the police for issuing the compound. You have to use your own good sense to park your car properly,” he added. – DayakDaily
