KUCHING, Feb 20: The total number of gold medals and events to be contested in the upcoming Malaysian Games (Sukma 2024) is expected to be finalised next month.
In an interview with TVS yesterday (Feb 19), Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it will be announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“It is still too early to determine the number of gold medals and events. We will only know once registration (of athletes) is done,” he said.
Sarawak was selected to host Sukma 2024, making it the third time the State has hosted the biggest national sporting event—the first was in 1990, followed by 2016.
Previously, Abdul Karim announced that Sukma 2024 would be held from August 17–24 in nine divisions: Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Serian, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri. — DayakDaily
