KUALA LUMPUR, May 10: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) joins the people of Malaysia in celebrating the joyous conclusion of the 14th general election (GE14).

In a press statement today, chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail said the will and sovereignty of the people have been translated through a democratic process with the choice of elected representatives who will now make up Parliament, the government and cabinet of Malaysia.

“SUHAKAM regards this as a sea change that will correct previous excesses owing to lapses in governance, that have impacted on the rule of law. SUHAKAM will spare no effort in helping to format proposals at this critical point where the people have made their choice for a government committed to democracy, human rights and the rule of law, in the context of the pluralism of our federal constitution.

“SUHAKAM hopes for an early formation of the government in order for the latter to proceed to move away from the past and fulfil the promises of governance and incorruptibility,” Razali said. — DayakDaily
