MIRI, March 29: The city population need not worry about food shortages, as the supply is sufficient, said mayor Adam Yii.
“We have no issue at this point, even though there are fear among the people of not enough food.
“Our supermarkets have plenty of food supply and the amount is adequate for everyone,” he said during a visit to Tamu Muhibbah with Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin here today.
Seven “tamu” throughout the city centre have been allowed to operate daily, but with restricted operation hours from 7am to 2pm.
The markets are Tamu Muhibbah, Tamu Khas, Tamu Kadayan, Tamu Dato Hj Ahmad Lai in Luak, Tamu Morsjaya, Tamu Taman Tunku and Tamu Pujut Corner.
“These tamu are localised (target market) and help us to minimise the number of customers so that we have lesser crowds in one particular location,” Yii said.
When asked on public awareness on social distancing when people go out to shop for essential items, Yii rated compliance among the Miri public at eight out of 10.
“I observed most of the public are aware and complying, it is just that we have asked the supermarkets or markets to do some rearrangement on the social distancing measures,” he said. — DayakDaily
