KUCHING, Sept 26: Four games developed by university students during the inaugural SWKGDC Game Jam 2022 at Tegas Digital Village yesterday will be featured in the upcoming What About Kuching 2022 (WAK22) on Oct 8-9.

The first ever Game Jam in Sarawak was jointly organised by Sarawak Game Developers Community (SWKGDC) and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas).

It was a hackathon-like programme that allowed participants to develop a playable game prototype in 48 hours.

The programme kicked off with a hands-on workshop held a day before the programme started at Tegas Digital Village.

Among the speakers and mentors for SWKGDC Game Jam 2022 were Aaron Lim from Kindling Interactive, Lee Zhi Eng from Kloena Digital, Nehemiah Raymond from TrifoldX, Ika Sulastri Mohammad Dahlan Donald from Moredoor Interactive, as well as Joshua Chung and Suan Goh from CtrlD Studio.

The games were developed by three-member teams, namely Traffic Rush, Pinaru, Office Chaos and Luminen, from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and The One Academy.

Participants received perks and benefits from MYStartup, which included up to USD150,000 of free Microsoft Azure (a cloud computing service) for two years (starting at USD1,000), plus a one-year subscription for Office 365 Business Apps, Power Automate, Dynamics 365 Customer Service Enterprise, Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise, Dynamics 365 Team Member and Dynamics Professional Direct Support as well as three months free access to Tegas Digital Village and Digital Innovation Hub in Kuching, Bintulu, and Miri. — DayakDaily
