KUCHING, Sept 26: Sarawak Energy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN) and Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) to establish cooperation in controlling infectious diseases.

Apart from that, the parties involved also agreed for their facilities to be used as joint facilities to find the best methods in controlling the spread of rabies and, at the same time, optimally exploit the Immune Belt Enforcement Team’s (IBET) potential.

The MoU was signed during the launching ceremony of IBET witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Celebration Square in Petra Jaya today.

Meanwhile, speaking during the launching ceremony of IBET, UKPN director Datu Dr Chai Khin Chung said community members are among those appointed as IBET members to act as a bridge with the local languages, cultures, and geographical barriers in Sarawak.

He also said it would enable IBET to establish a close relationship with the local community, and it is one of the critical success factors in IBET assignments in the future.

“A total of 32 IBET teams with a strength of 96 members will work the front line to cover the immune belt area at the border, which is 1,032km long,” he added. — DayakDaily
