MIRI, March 10: Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) has welcomed the new 2019 SPM examination timetable as it acknowledges and accommodates the candidates, parents and teachers’ concerns.
STU president Macky Joseph, when contacted, said SPM candidates would now be able to complete their examination before December, and they would not have a congested examination timetable as the Education Ministry had decided to keep to an average of two papers a day.
However, for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, these papers would have to be completed over three days.
“These subjects comprise three papers each,” he pointed out.
Macky was commenting on the Education Ministry’s move to change the timetable for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination starting this year by trimming the number of daily papers and spacing out more taxing subjects.
This move was announced by Examination Syndicate director Adzman Talib yesterday.
Macky highlighted that teachers who are invigilating would also benefit from the new format as they would get their much-deserved year-end break to recharge before the new academic year starts.
“The entire marking process should be able to be completed before the new academic year starts,” he opined.
STU hoped SPM results could now be released earlier than previously.
“This (releasing the results earlier) would ensure students have ample time to plan their next step,” he said. — DayakDaily
